Team entries into the 2018 Section 3 Bowling Championships are now being accepted.   This year’s event will be held on Super Bowl Sunday–February 4th at Strike-N-Spare Lanes.  Entries will be accepted up to February 1st.  To enter, teams must meet the established minimum entry criteria of earning at least a 50% winning percentage in one of three categories.  Those categories are 50% against teams in their league, 50% against teams of the same enrollment classification, or 50% overall record.

Lane Conditions- Tower of Pisa

The lane condition for the 2018 Section 3 Championships and the 2018 NYSPHSAA State Championships will be from the Kegel Landmark Challenge Series-  Tower of Pisa.  Information about Tower of Pisa can be found on the Kegel Company’s website in the Pattern Library.

Local Class Championships Awarded

Teams will be vying for Class Championships in one of three Enrollment classes.  Class ‘A’ is the largest for schools with an enrollment of 800 and up.  Class ‘B’ is the mid-range enrollment schools with enrollments of 400-799 and Class ‘C/D’ is the combined small school division for schools with enrollments of 399 and below.   Teams will draw for lane assignments with their respective classes the morning of the tournament.

State Division 1 and Division 2

While locally teams will be competing for Class championships, the State does not recognize State Champions in each enrollment “Class”.  Instead, the State divides schools into two separate Divisions based on school enrollment.   Division 1 is schools with an enrollment of 600 and up.  Division 2 is schools with an enrollment of 599 and below.  One Boy’s team and one Girl’s team in each of Division 1 and Division 2 will emerge as the champion and earn a berth into the NYS Finals on the weekend of March 10-11th.

State Championships at OnCenter

The State Championships are being held at the OnCenter, starting March 10th.  The NYS Public High School Athletic Association was able to reach an agreement with USBC to host the State Championships at the site as part of the pre-Open Championships “shakedown” events.

Section 3 Bowling Coaches will be emailed instructions on how to enter the Section 3 Championships.
