RFA Girls Repeat and Camden Girls 3-Peat in Division 1 and Division 2

The Camden girls won Division 2 for the 3rd consecutive season, and remain the only girls team to have won the Division 2 Title since the Division inception in the 2018 season. Camden lead the tournament wire to wire, opening with a 856 team game, and jumping out to an early 100+ pin lead. They followed with 875 game, tacking on another 100 pins to the lead and never looked backed. Camden will represent Section 3 in the Division 2 Championships on Friday, March 13th at Strike-N-Spare.

Meanwhile, the RFA girls also led wire-to-wire, in a much tighter contest but prevailed to defend their Division 1 Title, and Class A championship. RFA started out strong with 961-952 opening games, but Fulton was close behind and only trailed by 10 pins heading into Games 4-6. RFA pulled away down the stretch to defend their title. RFA was led by Sadie Falcone (1168) and MaryKate Weyant (1157). Fulton finished 2nd in Division 1, but claimed the Class B Championship.

In the Class C/D Division, Adirondack prevailed, edging out Sherbourne by a mere 46 pins.

The 2020 Section 3 Girls Bowling Team Championships are underway.

Section 6 Girls, Section 1 Boys win Composite Division Title

The Section 6 girls held off the the Section 11 girls and won the 2019 Section Composite Division Championship. The girls from the Western NY/Buffalo area put games of 1082 1154 1056 1196 999 1030 for a 6517 total and beating out Section 11, Long Island by 46 pins. The section 6 team consists of Sara D’Angelo 1228, Melissa Large 1322, Cameron Spring 1312, Rachel Wagner 1196, Kaelynn Weber 1263 Makenzie Yesis 1234.

The Section 1 boys led the boys tournament after 3 games, but had to rally to win the title in game 6 after surrendering the lead to Section 5 after game #5. Section #1 rolled games of 1097 1092 1179 and 1056, Section 1 was clinging to a narrow lead, but after a 1009 in game 5, they fell behind Section 5 Rochester. In its final game of the day, the bested Section 5 1050 – 975, to regain the lead and and win the title by 49 pins. The team was led by Nick Perron 1378, Tommy Chamberlin 1362, Jacob Portem 1235, Nick Varano 1218, Paul Cirillo 1188, and Sean Eybers 1150.

Fairport, North Rockland win Division 1 State Championship

The Fairport boys (Section 5) and North Rockland girls (Section 1) won the Division 1 NYS Championship on Friday at AMF Strike-N-Spare Lane. Fairport, rolled games of 1132-1096-1173-979-1150-967 for a 6 game total of 6497 A full 300 pins better than Section 4 Corning. Section 3 Champion Liverpool, started slowly with a 907 game, but rallied to move into 2nd place after game 4, before dropping to finish 5th places with a 6134.

North Rockland rolled games of 1025-992-992-1142-975-931 for 6057. East Islip was 2nd with 5895. Section 3, Rome Free Academy, placed 7th with 5092.

Queior, O’Melia, Carhart, and Conte Win Section 3 Shootout

Dimitri Queior from Central Square shot 1426 for his 6-games and won the Section 3 Shootout in convincing fashion. Dimitri rolled games of 236, 211, 264, 209, 228, and 278, EJ O’Melia from Indian River placed 2nd and will make his 2nd consecutive trip to the State Finals on the Section 3 Composite Team. EJ rolled a 1345 6-game total.

For the ladies, America Carhart from ESM rolled a 1341 series with games of 202, 257, 190, 235, 220, and 237. She will make her 2nd straight trip to the State Finals as she was a member of the 2018 Division #1 and Class A Champion ESM Girls team. Placing 2nd was Kaitlynn Conte from Utica-Proctor who rolled a 1323 series. Both Carhart and Conte led the next closest competitor by well over 100 pins.

Individual Shootout Time Change on Feb. 14th

For those bowlers who have qualified for the shootout, along with their coaches, parents, and spectators who were planning on attending, please be advised of the following change to the published start time of the event.

The Section 3 Bowling Shootout will now start at 3:00 pm on Thursday, February 14th (Valentines Day) at King Pin Lanes in Rome. Athletes should report with their coach for Check in and lane assignments starting at 2:00 pm Reminder, Athletes must be accompanied by a school approved coach or chaperone to be eligible to participate.

Entries Being Accepted for 2019 Section 3 Bowling Championships

Entries are now being accepted for the 2019 Section 3 Team Championships. This year, the Boys and Girls tournaments will be held on separate weekends with the Girls having their tournament at Flamingo Bowl on Super Bowl Sunday, February 3rd. The boys tournament will be held one week later on Sunday, February 10th at Pinorama Lanes in Utica. The Shootout returns to King Pin Lanes in Rome, and will be held on February 14th.

The teams will be squaring off for the right to advance to the State Championships and unseat the defending champs. This years State Championship is being hosted locally again by Section 3 at AMF Strike-N-Spare on March 8-10th. To see a list of registered teams, visit our Registration List.
